CATTLE FOR WAIKATO
MOBS FRO AI GISBORNE DEMAND IN NORTHLAND Many of the cattle purchased at the Alatawhero fair last week have been sent northwards to add to .some of the mobs sent through previously. Considerable numbers oi cattle and sheep continue to, pass through Opotiki and further mobs are expected in the next week or two. North Auckland also is supplying cattle to the Waikato in large numbers. and a consistent demand has occurred over the past two months.
The demand for next season’s breeding ewes is not expected to start for a. month or two yet. The position for the coining season is not vet clear, and some interests in Gisborne are inclined to think that Waikato buyers may not be anxious to make their inquiries at an early date this year. Alter the huge Waikato fosses from facial eczema, dairy farmers in that district may not wish to risk the grazing of sheep with further possible eczema, losses to follow if the season is unfavourable.
