RECON STR C CTION WORK TWELVE GIRDERS TO BE used Tiie Keren river bridge, on the newcoastal highway, is being raised considerably. and the task of conveying twelve steel girders, each weighingone ton. from the Opotiki wharf to the site of the Keren bridge, .has not been an easy one. Certain, parts of the road are very muddy through the road level having been raised, while on other portions sharp bends were negotiated with great difficulty. On the sharp rise on the road which has been let down the hill side on the Opotiki side oi! Mr Blake’s property, it was found necessary to tow the truck conveying some of the girders. A pilot truck was used to go ahead of the large truck to warn approaching traffic. A pontoon is at present used for crossing the Keren river.
