WOODLANDS MEETING
Tuesday was the meeting day of the Woodlands Women’s Institute. Mrs Noble presided and only the very necessary business was dealt with, the meeting then being taken charge of by Mrs Fisher, president of the Opotiki Women’s Institute, members of * which had kindly arranged the programme for the day. Mrs Fisher spoke of the pleasure they felt at being present and then commenced pro- - ccedings with the Roll Call, “The Domestic Duty I Dislike Most”. Mrs Jeffery gave a pleasing demonstration of daisy work which was much admired. This was followed by two vocal selections by Miss V. Thompson which were greatly appreciated. A comprehensive story came next - and proved a novel entertainment. A “can” competition had l been arranged and was won by Mrs Thompson. Afternoon tea was served by, the hostesses, Mrs Hollard and Mrs McGregor, the dainty tea-tables receiving complimentary comments from the visitors. Following tea came a talk on “China”, given by Commandant Newton, assisted by her sister, Ensign Newton, botli of the Salvation Army. Miss Newton was very enthusiastic about her work and very appreciative of the beauties of the countries she and * her sister had visited. The talk was most interesting and greatly appreciated by all. The competitions which had been * set and were judged by the'Opotiki Women’s Institute, resulted 'in Mrs McOaldon Ixvng the successful competitor in the ‘Best - Flower frein my garden” * competition, and Mrs Pilkington gaining the prize for the shortbread competition. A vote of thanks to the Opotiki members was moved bv Mrs Noble and the meeting ended with the National Anthem.
