OPOTIKI MONTHLY MEETING The regular monthly meeting of tho Opotiki Women’s Institute was held, in the Parish Hall An - -Saturday the 14th. May. Mrs Ui'sFer presided. There was a large "'£ivtendaucy, r /of members. The W.I. creed and song ~Avas followed by a short business session. Miss Valerie Thompson delighted with two songs, accompanied by Mrs

Hampton.- Miss Newton, a retired Salvation Army Officer, who is at •present visiting friends in Opotiki, gave a most interesting address on the social work of the Salvation £\rmy in China. Miss Newton touched chiefly- on tlie rescue work in the large cities. This address was followed closely by the institute members.

Mrs McCrae, of Wairata, very kindly gave a very chatty address on her trip to England’ during the Coronation. Mrs McCrae charmed all present with her most interesting account of the Coronation Procession and also of the Garden Party at Buckingham Palace at which a number of New Zealanders were present. A hearty vote 1- of thanks was accorded to both of these ladies.

A competition arranged by Miss Lambert was won by Mrs Forbes. Miss Bridge won the competition for a bowl of chrysanthemums. Needle work competition was won by Mrs Jeffery.

Hostesses for the evening were: — Mfesdames Ef. J. Baigent, J. T. Clark, and W. Beattie.

The singing of the National Anthem brought the evening to a close.
