BISHOP IN POLYNCSiA W EL C 031 ED The Rt. Rev. L. V S. Kempthorne, Bishcp in Polynesia, who arrived in Opotiki cn Wednesday was welcomed at a social organised by St. Stephen’s Social Club and held, in the Parish Hall on Wednesday evening. The visit had been delayed owing to the Hawke’s Ray floods which upset the itinerary. There was a good attendance and all present were greatly interested in the comprehensive address given by the Bishop. The evening was then given to dancing and a delicious supper was served. On Thursday afternoon the Rt. Rev. L. S. Kempthorne met parents of Sunday School children and the children, atthe Parish Hall. An interesting illustrated address was given. There was a proposal to form a missionary guild in Opotiki to work far some of the missionary children and to provide school equipment for them. Rt. Rev. Kempthorne spoke of his missionary work which is also being -being done among the Hindus, Chinese, 31elanesian, and white people. He said that it was hoped to have a large Cathedral built in Suva in -the near future. Their work was often handicapped by the hurricanes which destroyed the churches. His diocese was 4,000 miles in length by 3.000 miles and was the largest diocese in the world.' The Bishcp left Opotiki this morning. for Whakatane.
