SWAGGER IN TROUBLE At tlie Opotiki Police Court this afternoon before Messrs. J. D. Clark and C. Pine, J.P’s.. Richard William Bright was charged with being idle and disorderly with insufficient means cf -support. Accused pleaded guilty. Constable 11. AY. Beasley,, who Prosecuted. stated that tlie accused had been a bird of passage on the road for the past six to eight weeks. At 0.30 this morning the police received a ring from Afr 0. Hamilton, AYaioeka, who stated that the accused had been sleeping in bis engine-shed. (unstable* Beasley proceeded to Air Hamilton's place and found that the accused bad neither money ncr swag. The accused said that he had done a day’s haymaking at Taneatua. He had roamed through Gisborne. Napier, Hastings and back again. Roadmen were nlraid to leave their huts unattended. The accused had one previous nine years ago. The bench advised the accused to get w< fk as plenty was offering. It was not a case for imprisonment but the accused would he convicted and called up for sentence within six months. He was ordered to get out of the district and tci keep away from the AYaioeka Gorge. Charles Patrick Collins who was charged at the Magistrate s Court on Monday with being drunk in a -public place was in trouble again the following day when he appeared before justices of the peace on charge of drunkenness and also for a breach of a prohibition order. The accused had been convicted on three similar charges. He was sentenced tci tw o months’ imprisonment.
