The reply stated that the loan did not appear to be warranted. 1 Cr. Johnsofi considered the council should write and ask for reasons against the proposal. Or. Shalfoon said some of the councillors had objected and therediad also been a petition against the proposed scheme. Cr. Johnson moved that the council write and ask for definite rpasons as to why the loan was turned down. —Seconded hv Cr. Stevenson. • On a vote being taken the result was even. The deputy-mayor ■ gave his casting vote in favour of the motion.
