LOAN PROPOSAL.

MAJORITY.

Yesterday a poll was taken of the ratepayers in the Waihou Bridge Special Rating District on the proposal to raise a loan ot ,£2500 for the purpose oi erecting a bridge over the Waihou River at the Puke, to take the place of the present terry, lhere were two polling booths — the County Chambers at Paeroa, where Mr J. Black (the returning officer) was in charge, and the Public Hall at Netherton, where Mr G. Dean was deputy returning officer. Polling proceeded steadily throughout the day, 144 votes being recorded at Paeroa, and 35 votes at Netherton.

The ratepayers approved of the loan proposal by a large majority, the voting at Paeroa being 128 in favour of the loan and 16 against, while at Netherton all the 35 votes cast were in favour of the loan. There were no informal votes. The poll closed at six o'clock, and the result was promptly announced by the returning officer (Mr (.Black) about twenty minutes later. -, On the special roll prepared for the. poll there were 339 voters, having 392 votes, and the total number ot votes recorded was 179.
