PRESENTATION TO RAIL-
WAY INSPECTOR
A complimentary smoke concert to Mr Thomas Ashby, inspector of permanent ways in the railway district between Rotorua and Thames, who has been transferred ■ to the Pukekohe district, was held at Te Aroha this week. Mr J. McCarthy presided over a large and representative gathering of railway men, the company including Inspector Sellars, who is succeeding Inspector Ashby at Te Aroha. Various toasts were honoured, and Mr G. E. Skellern in proposing the health of Inspector and Mrs Ashby alluded to the respect in which they were held by the staff working under Mr Ashby. During the proceedings Inspector Ashby was presented with a watch bearing the inscription " From the employees of the Thames and Rotorua branch of the Maintenance Department, N.Z. Railways," whilst a sjold watch-guard was also handed to him for Mrs Ashby. The vocalists who contributed to the evening's enjoyment included Messrs J. Lynch, R. G. Collins and J. Tnnmins.
