COUNTY BOUNDARIES.
CANNOT BE ALTERED.
Some little while ago the Ohinemuri County Council decided to endeavour to have the boundary line between the Piako and Ohinemuri Counties adjusted so as to have it made on more suitable lines. With this object in view, the Piako County Council was communicated with, and the following reply from the clerk to that body was read at yesterday's meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council:—" I have the honour, by direction of the Piako County Council, to acknowledge receipt of your letter ot the 25th April on the question of having the boundary line between the Ohinemuri and Piako Counties more satistactorily adjusted. This letter was duly placed before the Council at its last meeting, and I was instructed to reply and state that the Council regrets, but
at the present time it cannot see its way clear to alter the present boundary. This decision was arrived at after considerable discussion, the Council considering that, in view ot the large loans lately raised in the ridings along the northern boundary ot the County, it wouW be unfair to any new ratepayers who were brought into the Piako County by any new adjustment to have to pay interest rates on loans in connection with the raising of which they have no
vote." Mr Nathan: That's bosh. They would have the benefit of the money spent whether they voted for it or not. ' The letter was " received."
