JOINT COUNCIL

A meeting of the Otago Committee of the Joint Council of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society was attended by Mr Charles V. Smith (chairman), Mrs A. A. Fairbairn, Dr A. R. Falconer, Messrs A. McHutchon and H. L. Pater - It was reported that a projector had been ordered for the use of service patients in Otago institutions, which it was hoped would be in use. early next year. A further grant of £SO was voted to the Orangapai Servicemen’s Club at Waipiata Saxiatorium. A letter was received from the chairman of the club expressing appreciation for past assistance given by the committee. Christmas parcels, it was stated, would be distributed to all service patients in Otago institutions. The Montecillo Home report stated that it had been decided to close the home for three weeks as from December 23 in order that both patients and staff should have a change during the holiday season. Plans for improvement in the workroom approved by headquarters were now under consideration, and the work would be carried out in the near future.
