EMIGRATION IN BRITAIN REPLY TO MR CHURCHILL’S ASSERTIONS Rec. 11 p.m. LONDON. Dec. 8. The Minister of War, Mr Emanuel Shinwell, in a speech at Bolton last night, replying to Mr Churchill’s assertion that one-quarter of Britain’s 48,000.000 population would have to disappear under the Socialist system, said that Britain would have to consider in an organised fashion without political motives the, whole question of emigration. “Britain has to provide more populations for. the dominions and colonies as part of our Empire policy. ' We must do that for security and economic reasons.” Mr Shinwell added that Britain wanted to keep her productive workers, doctors, nurses, teachers, musicians, and artists, and was even prepared to retain “ some of the newspaper people.”
