COLOSSAL INCREASE
COST OF LIVING INDEX IN CHINA Sec 9 p.m. NANKING, Dec. 8. The cost of living index in China is 70,000 times higher than before the war, according to figures quoted by members of the executive Yuan at a meeting yesterday. Members urged the Government to put a final stop to rumours concerning the issuing of higher currency notes, which members claim responsible for speculation and the cause of spiralling commodity prices. Members agreed that the American aid plan was insufficient to stabilise China’s national currency or curb rising prices.
