CARISBROOK WINS OUTRIGHT

ALBION-Y.M.C.A.’S LOW TOTAL Mediocre batting by Albion-Y.M.C.A., added to the ability of the Carisbrook bowlers to exploit a wicket which was giving them some assistance, gave Carisbrook an overwhelming win by an innings and 156 runs in the match at Carisbrook. The slow bowlers reaped a harvest. In the first innings Albion-Y.M.C.A., needing a total of 306, collapsed against the accurate attack of A. R. Knight, well supported by the fast-medium bowling of J. Valentine. The side was disposed of by 2.30 p.m. for 76 runs. S. Duncan (19, not out), E. Watson (18), and H. Miller (15) were the only batsmen to reach double figures. Knight- finished with the good figures of five wickets for 31 runs. Following on, Albion-Y.M.C.A. fared even worse. The batsmen, with few exceptions, showed a complete inability to use their feet to the slow leg-break bowling of R. Carter, who took six wickets for 20 runs. Albion-Y.M.C.A. was dismissed in the second innings for 74. The last wicket fell at 4.18 p.m. T. Birch hit hard for a total of 22, which included a 6 and three 4’s, but A. Keegan (20) and J Deuchrass (12) were the only others to stay for long. A feature of the match was a brilliant display by the Carisbrook wicketkeeper, I. Gallaway, who caught one batsman and stumped five during the afternoon. He allowed no byes to pass him in either innings. Scores:— Carisbrook First innings 306 Albion-Y.M.C.A. First Innings
