A CLOSE FINISH
WIN FOR UNIVERSITY
After a stodgy exhibition of batting by Dunedin, there was an interesting finish to the match with University at Tonga Park. It resulted in a win for the students on the first innings. The opening batsmen, D. McDonald and L. Graham, resumed Dunedin’s first innings. They placed 77 runs on the board before Colquhoun dismissed Graham with a smart catch behind the stumps. McDonald went in to top the scoring with 59 runs. The batting was painfully slow against the accurate University attack. V. A. C. McArley and F. K. Rennie were the mainstay of the bowling, and R. W. Orr also kept the batsmen subdued with deliveries of a consistent length. Dunedin's last wicket fell at 5.50 p.m., when the side required only eight runs for- a five-point win. An unusual feature of the match was the catching out of five Dunedin batsmen by substitutes from their own side fielding for University.
