GRANGE HAD UPHILL FIGHT Grange had an uphill fight in the match against ß Old Boys at the North Ground. The Grange batsmen dould make only 165 against a steady attack in reply to the 347 made by Old Boys. I. Payne scored almost half the runs with a slow innings, but merited his 81 made m two and aquarter hours. A. Moir made 22 the fourth-wicket partnership with Payne added 43 runs. The remaining wickets fell cheaply. A.,W. Roberts, with four for 53, and L. Groves, with four for 46, were the mainstay of the attack. Old Boys, with a first-innings lead of 182 and an hour and a-quarter to play, put Grange in again on a wicket being softened by rain. When three wickets fell quickly to the medium bowling of W. Gough, Old Boys had the chance of an outright win, but J. St ® p , l l e ‘] so ? + stayed with W. Haig, who batted attractively until 5.30 p.m. In the remaining half-hour Haig and N. McGregor attacked the bowling in a bright partnership which yielded 68 runs. McGregor made 32 not out, and Haig was undefeated at stumps with 53. He hit two 6’s. W. Gough took four for 34.
