EARLY ACTION
BOARD'S WISH ADVICE AWAITED “The Otago Education Board has not yet received official advice of the decision to close schools,” said the secretary, Mr C. R. McLean, last night, “ but as the information received by the Daily Times is authoritative, it will be the wish of the board that schools should be closed as soon as possible.” Mr McLean added that it would, of course, be necessary for all schools to reassemble to-day if for no other reason than to allow pupils to remove their books and other items of personal equipment. The removal of this material was required to enable cleaners thoroughly to cleanse the school buildings. Head and sole teachers would, no doubt, also take the opportunity of impressing on the children the absolute necessity of avoiding all possible risk of infection. Mr McLean stated that teachers must complete all returns and all other end-of-year duties before leaving their schools. All the necessary return forms had already been despatched from the board’s offices. “Any further directions that may be necessary.” Mr McLean concluded, “ will be forwarded to the schools as soon as possible after the receipt of official advice by the board.”
