NEW APPOINTMENT

THIRD UNDER-SECRETARY FOR TREASURY N.Z.F.A. Special Correspondent LONDON, Dec. 3. In order to make provision for the appointment of an ecipnomic secretary to the Treasury, having equal, status with the Financial Secretary, a Bill has been presented to the House of Commons creating this new office. The Bill proposed that the Treasury, as distinct from other State departments, shall have three under-secretaries instead of two. It is understood that the post has, been created at the request of Sir Stafford Cripps, in order to provide him with an extra assistant. This follows his assumption of the duties of Chancellor of the Exchequer in addition to those of Minister of Economic Mr Eden, when the Bill was introduced by Mr Herbert Morrison, said it seemed a reasonable provision, bht the Opposition would like an assurance that it would not be regarded as a precedent. Mr Morrison gave this assuranceThe salary of the new Economic Secretary when the appointment is made will be £2OOO a year.
