DESTROYED BY FIRE

TIMBER MILL IN TARANAKI F.A. TE KUITI, Dec. 5.' Fire-completely destroyed Ellis and Burnard’s No. 2 mill at Mangapehi, Taranaki, this morning. The carpenters’ shop and the spare parts stores containing irreplaceable equipment were also destroyed. Outstanding work by the firefighters, assisted by the recently-in-stalled fire-fighting apparatus saved the fitters’ shop, the No. 1 mill, and other buildings. No statement has been made, about the damage, but it will probably be about £20.000. The No. 1 mill was destroyed by fire two years ago and was placed. The insurance cover is understood to be far below replacement cost.
