SCHOOL YEAR ENDS
KING EDWARD TECHNICAL COLLEGE | - ' ( “ I would like to express the city’s i appreciation of the college’s magnificent work in training good citizens for the future,” said the Mayor, Mr Cameron, at the breaking-up ceremony of the King Edward Technical College, held in the . Dunedin Concert Chamber yesterday. 1 “ The college is not just an educational institution, but is making a valuable con- ; tribution to the city’s musical, cultural, and artistic life.” Mr Cameron paid a tribute to the services of the chairman of the Board of Managers, Mr J. J. Mar- ; low, who presided at the function. The work of pupils of the college in sending parcels to Britain was commented on by the principal, Mr W: ~G. Aldridge. Throughout the year, the girls had been making goods and raising funds for CORSO, while the * boys had recently shipped three cases of chocolate to an ■ East London School. Mr Aldridge said that' 300 pupils would be working in the city next week and 100 would be employed : away from home during the vacation.' The gratitude of the college for support accorded by the public during the year was expressed by Mr Marlow. There had been a generous response to any appeal which the pupils had launched. Next » year, with the opening of the domestic science wing, additional facilities would be available for training. The reputation of a college depended on the work of its pupils, Mr Marlow said, and he appealed to those who were leaving to maintain their interest in the school. Prizes for proficiency in sports were presented by Mr J. M. Patrick, scholarships by Mrs H. G. Morris, and special awards by Mr Cameron. Choral and orchestral items were given by pupils of the college. . 1
