TALLY CLERKS’ BAN
HANDLING OF WOOL IN AUSTRALIA
SYDNEY SALES AFFECTED Rec. 8 p.m. . SYDNEY, Dec. 5. The hold-up of wool exports by Australian tally clerks is extending, and next week’s Sydney wool sales may be cancelled. The ban on handling wool already in force in Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, and Adelaide, has now spread to Fremantle. Mr J. R. Hughes, the New South Wales secretary of the Federated Clerks’ Union, said that the dispute would possibly extend to Tasmania and Queensland if the court did not settle it. Mr James McGirr, Premier of New South Wales, said in the Legislative Assembly that he would inquire into alleged subversive activity connected with the strike. An allegation was made by a Country Party member, who asked Mr McGirr to inquire into the activities of Mr Hughes.
