IMPORT POLICY

BRITISH MANUFACTURERS PUZZLED MANY GOODS AVAILABLE Special to the Daily Times AUCKLAND; Dec. 2. British manufacturers could not understand why the New Zealand Government refused to grant import licences for goods which were not acceptable to dollar areas and which were available in large quantities for despatch to the Dominion, said Mr H. W. Jagusch, of Auckland, who returned by the British Pacific Skymaster Warana from a business visit to Europe and America. Mr Jagusch said he found that manufacturers in the United Kingdom were anxious to send as much as possible to the Dominion. Czechoslovakia had large quantities of textiles, glasses, rubber ware, and musical instruments available for export to the Dominion, but the Customs Department refused to grant licences. In Belgium he had received a quotation for a large order of vacuum flasks, but his application for a licence was refused.
