PRECAUTIONS IN SYDNEY
CHECK ON PASSENGERS FROM DOMINION Rec. 11 p.m, SYDNEY, Nov. 30 Following-the decision of the New Zealand Health Department to close all schools in the North Island because of the infantile paralysis outbreak, the Commonwealth health officers in Sydney will watch planes and ships entering Australia from the Dominion to check on suspects, A senior medical officer said that precautions would be strengthened, though normally there was no routine inspection of arriving passengers. The last infantile paralysis epidemic in Australia began towards the end of 1945, and reached its peak in May, 1946. in which month 200 cases were reported. It ended in November, 1946, after claiming nearly 1400 victims.
