SUPREME COURT

PRISONER SENTENCED John Edwin Wright, aged 65, appeared for sentence, in the Supreme Court in Dunedin, yesterday before Mr Justice Kennedy, on three charges of indecent assault on females. Representing the prisoner, Mr F. W. Guest said the case was an unfortunate one of a man who had never been in any trouble before. Counsel, who directed the judge’s attention to the orobation officer’s report, said that it was difficult to say anything in favour of the prisoner, considering his age and that of the young girls concerned. His Honor said that a bad type of offence had been committed. On each charge the prisoner was sentenced to two years’ reformative detention, the sentences to be concurrent.
