FIFTY YEARS’ TRADING

. To mark the completion of 50 years’ trading, senior members of the Auckland firm of Spedding, Limited, tendered a dinner to Mr W. A, Boucher, the managing director. ,

The firm wag established in 1897 by Mr J. C. Spedding, and Mr Boucher started as a junior in 3905. He purchased the firm from Mr Spedding in 1914. forming it into a limited liability company. There are now branches in all the main centres with associate offices in the smaller towns. The firm’s operations are not confined to the import business only, as prior to Government regulations in respect to exports, it was engaged in shipping New Zealand primary products overseas. When sailing ships were the means of providing transport of many lines secured from overseas, Spedding Limited chartered and loaded many well known sailing vessels owned by the Craig Line, and cargoes which included produce, lumber and gasoline were imported and distributed to all parts of the Dominion.
