Labour Federation to Seek New Wage Order
Industrial Correspondent.
WELLINGTON, Nov. 27.
Authority to approach the Court of Arbitration for a new general wage increase is to be sought by the New Zealand Federation of Labour. The national council of the federation, after a full review of the effect of the recent wage and price adjustments, decided to-day to ask the Government to abolish wage pegging by the amending Economic Stabilisation Emergency Regulations to permit a further claim for a general increase to go before the court. The council will ask for the abolition of the war-time price index system as provided for under clauses 42 and 43 of the Economic Stabilisation Emergency Regulations. To permit a . new approach to the court in the manner proposed by the council, it is believed that these clauses will require to be removed.
While it asks for the abolition of wage pegging and the right to go to the court again, the federation will at the same time ask that prices should be rigidly controlled under the newly constituted price tribunal. No official statement on to-day's discussions will be released by the federation until to-morrow.
