DANGER SEEN IN TRAFFIC REGULATIONS

P.A. AUCKLAND, Nov. 26. “ The disastrous Christchurch fire shows the urgent necessity for getting the traffic regulations amended to let fire engines proceed to a fire without being held up by lights and pedestrian crossings,” said Mr B. Brigham, chairman of the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board, at a meeting of the board. “In such an emergency every second counts; and people could be burnt to death while an engine waited for lights to change from red to green,” he said. . The board resolved to communicate with the Minister of Transport, Mr Hackett, and ask for immediate attention to be given to amendments which it had proposed in a letter six weeks ago. Permission for engines to proceed against red lights was sought in the proposals.
