WANGANUI WOOL SALE
A BUOYANT MARKET TOP PRICE OF 44d REALISED P.A. WANGANUI, Nov. 26. The buoyant nature of the wool market in New Zealand was again emphasised to-day when, at the first sale of the current season to be held in Wanganui, prices as high as 44d were realised. Taken over all, the prices were from 6d to Is better than at the corresponding sale last year A catalogue of 25,000 bales was offered to a full bench of buyers. It whs nearly all the current seasons wool, only a very small proportion of stock wools being offered on behalf of the Joint Organisation. It was generally agreed that this was the most successful sale ever held in Wanganui and 44d, which was obtained for two bales of Southdown wool, was a record for this centre. The wool, generally, opened up well and comprised, in the main, crossbred. There was little of the very finer types offering. A line of hogget wool was sold at 413 d and there were frequent sales of finer types of wool at 39d and 40d. One line was sold to the Wanganui Mills at 40.1 d. While farmers, naturally, were pleased at the high prices, they referred to the higher costs of production which now have to be faced, compared with the days when Is and Is 6d were regarded as very good. Brokers also emphasised that, to obtain a true comparison, the costs of production and the value of money had to be taken into account.
