DANGER OF FIRE

PRESENT DRY CONDITIONS PA WELLINGTON, Nov. 25. ‘Conditions are very dry in the centre of the North Island, and officers of the State Forest ■ Service say there is a need for every precaution being taken to reduce fire risk to a minimum. Private advice was received at Wellington to-day from Turangi, at the south end of Lake Taupo, that fire appeared to have broken out at Raumata. The fire mentioned is considered to be a scrub fire but no reports have been received by the state Forest Service of the outbreak of any serious fire. ' ~ The official view is that, unless there is rain shortly, there is every indication of a danger period looming up in the centre of the North Island.
