Emphasising the need for care to prevent fires in Southland during tne present dry weather, the Conservator of Forests, Mr J. F. It was also an offence to discard any lighted match, pipe ashes, lighted cigarette, or any other burning or smouldering substance on an y An additional clause m the Bill stated that, even if a person received permission to light a fire, he was committing a breach if he lit such fire after a broadcast warning against lighting fires in the particular area. Actually, it is now an.offence, Mr Field concluded, even to boil a billy after a broadcast warning had been given. .
