Mr and Mrs L. M. Wright Sunshine, left yesterday for Rotorua. Mr and Mrs S. Lawn returned on Wednesday from a visit to Australia. Mrs Hugh Speight has arrived home after spending several weeks in the North Island Mrs Vernon Smith, Claremont street, has returned from an extended tour of Australia.

Mrs Murray Falconer left yesterday l or Auckland, where she will remain until she is joined by her husband on his return from overseas.

Dr Helen Thomson last night entertained friends at a house-warming party at her home in Gamma stret, Roslyn. Dr Molly Marples gave a supper party on Wednesday for Dr and Mrs Cushman Murphy prior to their departure for the Snares, where they hope to study bird life.

Mrs W. H Elliott, Dunedin, president of the Women’s Division of the Federated Farmers, has recently returned from a five-weeks’ tour of branches in the North Auckland and King Country areas.

Tlie University professors and their wives entertained Professor Robert Jack and Professor and Mrs R. J. T. Bell on Tuesday night in the Crawford Lounge. Mrs Bell wore black georgette and a corsage spray of pink roses. Mrs John Colquhoun, of East Taieri, has returned from Wellington after saying goodbye to her son, Mr Maurice McDowell, M.Sc., who has left for England and -America, where he will further his studies. Mr McDowell expects to be abroad for three years The guests of honour at a party given by the Literary Circle of the Otago Women’s Club on Wednesday morning were Mrs V. E. Galway, who is retiring from the committee, and Miss Grace Farney the retiring chairman of the circle. Each was presented with a hand--ome floral tribute.

The St. Hidla’s Old Girls’ Association held their annual dinner at the Brown House last night. Over sixty members •vere welcomed by the president, Mrs E R. Harty. Miss Dalziel, principal of the college, and two of .the members of the retiring committee, Mrs A. A. Fairbairn, and Miss Pat Rutherford, were guests of lonour.

At the Travel Club’s meeting on Wednesday Seouter C. S. Hall gave a talk on his recent visit to England and the Continent. Mrs Douglas Barton welcomed the speaker and the following visitors:— Mrs E. Davis (London), Mrs Clem Howell, Mrs S. Couston, and Miss Shirley Austin (Wellington). Mrs John Farrell (Auckland), Miss I. R. Hunter (Invercargill), Mrs W. Toms (Roxburgh). Miss I. Griffiths (Auckland), and Messrs Birchall, G. Hopkins, and D. Rathbone (Dunedin). Mesdames J Starr and M. Mitchell were the hostesses. Those present stood in silence as a tribute to the memory of Mr H. L. Gibson, the first president of the club.

About 130 were present at the annual dinner of the Otago High School Exgirls’ Association, held in the Crawford Lounge on Monday night. The president, Miss A. M. Aitken. occupied the chair. The toast list honoured was:—“The School,” Mrs Yetti Bell —Miss M. S. Fitzgerald, principal of the school; " The Association ” Miss E. Britton—Miss W Nicol; " The Staff," Mrs N. PearSbn—Miss V. Sheddan; “ Kindred Associations,” Miss C. Lee—Miss H. Parata; "Absent Friends," Miss M. Cameron—Mrs Stanley Wakefield, of England, who made an appeal to members to continue sending food parcels to England. The programme given was:— Songs, Misses J. Stewart and E. Chadwick; recitations, Miss Y. Lambourne Miss C. Clarke was the accompanist.
