INCREASED STAKES
FORBURY PARK CUP MEETING CENTENNIAL EVENT IN APRIL At a meeting of the committee of the Forbury Park Trotting Club last night It was decided, on the motion of Mr J. Richardson, to recommend to the Programme Committee that stake money totalling £12,500 should be given for the club’s Cup meeting in January, an increase of £2500 on the amount distributed at the corresponding meeting this year. It was emphasised by the chairman, Mr B. S. Irwin, and other speakers that it would be inadvisable to run the proposed Centennial Cup at the January meeting in view of the interdominion trotting and pacing championships at Auckland in. February, and it was agreed that the centennial meetmg should be held in April. The chairman explained that if the Programme Committee thought it advisable all the increased prize money could go to the Cup event, but the committee would probably decide to make all-round stake increaSbs. He also stated that authority had been given for the purchase of a trophy valued at £ICO. A grant of £5 5s was made to the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Club and a similar sum to the Dunedin Combined Orphanages’ Committee. There was a short discussion on the question of unauthorised persons in the birdcage on race days, and it was decided, on the motion of Mr D. C. Jolly, to ask Mr J. Dykes to accept the position of birdcage inspector. "Although we had bad luck to strike wdt weather on the second day, the spring meeting proved very satisfactory from a financial point of view,” commented the chairman, in reporting on the meeting. The report was adopted. Fourteen new members were elected.
