RULE RELAXED

ONE-EYED DRIVERS

P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 20. Relaxation of the restrictions on one-eyed drivers of public passenger vehicles contained in the Motor Drivers’ Regulations 1940 Amendment No. 4 were gazetted to-night. Amendment No. 3 previously prevented the granting of licences to one-eyed drivers of public passenger vehicles. The Minister of Transport is now authorised to grant a licence provided, first, the applicant was a driver of a public passenger vehicle before the restriction was enforced; secondly, the applicant satisfies the Minister that his past driving record was satisfactory; thirdly, the applicant supplies the Minister with a medical certificate showing 6/6 standard vision in the remaining eye and the certificate indicates that the applicant is otherwise physically capable of being a safe driver. .
