STRAYING STOCK

Sir,—During a recent trip. to Central Otago I .noticed the excessive number, of stray animals grazing on the sides of roads. I wonder if the owners and authorities realise the potential menace of these animals to travellers. It is not unusual to negotiate a bend and see three or four sheep or an odd cow right in the path of motorists and motor cyclists. As usual, it looks as though nothing will be done about the matter until the inevitable accident takes place. Surely the highway patrol officer on these roads has noticed the menace and reported such, or does he him Self “ give way ” to the animals and concentrate solely on human offenders of the highway.—l am, etc., Prevention First.
