Secret Organisation Preparing to Take Over When Allies Quit Japan
N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 7.30 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 17. The Tokio correspondent of the Glasgow Herald says officials at General MacArthur’s headquarters have reached the settled conclusion that a powerful secret organisation comprising nationalist and militaristic elements, black marketeers and labour agitators are preparing to endeavour to overthrow all occupation reforms and to seize the government in Japan if the occupation forces quit the country. There is believed to be a central directions organisation with a large number of subordinate sections between which it is difficult to establish a connection. One of the powerful influences behind the organisation is the association of hoarders and racketeers who have made large profits from black market operations.
