BRAVE WIRELESS OPERATOR TRANSMITTER SALVAGED FROM SINKING SHIP HALIFAX (NOVA SCOTIA), Rec. 11.15 p.m. Nov. 16. Thirty shipwrecked members of the crew of the British freighter Langlecrag are huddled together on the bleak northern tip of Newfoundland while their wireless operator flashes messages to rescue the party on the bits and pieces of the transmitter he salvaged from the ship Langlecrag piled into rugged shore in a gale just before dawn on Saturday and broke in two. The crew managed to struggle ashore in boats through the angry sea with the loss of only one man. “ Sparks ” later made a hazardous dash back through the. raging sea in a small boat. He grabbed pieces of his transmitter from. the ship and began a perilous return trip to shore. His boat was smashed against the rocks, but he managed to scramble out with the radio parts intact.

Royal Canadian Air Force planes are standing by to, drop supplies, but a ground rescue party expects to reach the sailors to-morrow.
