DAMAGED BOWL

QUESTION OF REDRESS DISCUSSION BY CENTRE “If a bowl is damaged during testing, it is the responsibility of the New Zealand Bowling Association. This centre appoints the tester, but is not responsible for his actions,” said Mr W. Johnston, president of the Dunedin Bowling Centre, at its monthly meeting on Saturday night. The discussion was aroused by a letter from Mr W. J. McKay, who said that one of his bowls had been broken by the tester applying excessive pressure when stamping the date on it. The bowl was a composition one, he said, and had been in perfect condition for 15 years. Mr McKay asked if he could claim any redress and from whom. “ Bowlers should not be asked to run the risk of having their bowls damaged when they are being tested in compliance with the regulations, said Mr C. R. Caffin. “All Mr McKay’s bowls were in excellent condition, and the damaged one broke at the point of contact with the stamp. He should have redress from somebody.” The president and Mr Devereuxi both remarked that the bowl appearea to have been cracked previously. Mr Devereux said that the executive should interview the bowl tester ana report to the next meeting. The centre decided to do so. Presidential Ruling
