SUPPLIES OF PETROL INTERFERENCE WITH HOLIDAYS AVOIDED An indication that, in fixing the new petrol allocations, the Government has made an effort to avoid interference with motorists' holiday running is given in the permits which have been received by Dunedin resellers. The allocations made in the permits suggest that the policy has been to grant the retailers amounts approximating those which were sold in the preholiday period last year and to postpone the effect of the “ cut ” until February, March, and April of next year. “ Provided motorists are not greedy,” said the president of the Otago branch of the N.Z. Retail Motor Trade Association (Mr F, R. Craig) yesterday, “ the petrol supply position can be regarded as very encouraging, but it seems definite that when the holiday season is over we will have to take stock of the situation. The Government appears to have done its best not to interfere with motorists' holiday arrangements, leaving it to us to see that the supplies are allocated fairly.” Mr Craig indicated that resellers had experienced some relief on finding that fears of immediate drastic action had not Been justified. He pointed out that, while supplies up to the end of the year were almost equivalent to those allowed in the corresponding period 12 months ago, there were now more cars on the road. “ But,” he added, “provided the demands made on us are reasonable, I think we should be able to get through.”
