OTAGO MEDICAL SCHOOL
ADMISSIONS FOR NEXT YEAR HEAVY EXCESS OF APPLICANTS Applications for admission to the Otago Medical School in 1948 closed on Saturday. The total number received will not be available until today, but up till Saturday morning there were 260 applications for admission from all over New Zealand. The number to be admitted is 120, and last year a total of 322 applications was received. The applicants were advised of the results just before Christmas last year, and it is hoped that the decisions as to the admissions will be made available at the same period on' this occasion. There are several priorities for admission to the Medical School. Already preferences totalling 51 have been expressed for returned servicemen, and the preferences for graduates, for which no limit has been named, will remain in force for next year. There are also preferences for the readmission of students repeating their second-year course. Droviding they are so recommended. The total number of applications from students with such preferences as those mentioned is not yet available. ,
