INVERCARGILL TRIALS
SALMON SPEAR AND SPARE PART IMPRESS Special to the Daily Times INVERCARGILL, Nov. 13. Sound mile trials by Salmon Spear Signal Officer, and Spare Part and a smart six furlongs by Eriskay and Doulton were features of the final trials at Invercargill this morning. The course proper was in fast ' order and overhead conditions were also perfect. The novices. Fonso. Lady Marylin, and Matin, finished together at the end of six -furlongs in Imin 20sec. Fonso appeared to have the upper hand. Over the same ground Grand Pal, on his own, took lmin 19 l-ssec. Absentee and Haughty Dick ran seven furlongs in lmin 36sec. Black Light took lmin 21sec for six. Sir Garnish and Wild Cry impressed by the manner in which they ran a mile in lmin 49 l-ssec. Geisha Girl did five furlongs in lmin 6sec, Fibbertigibbett took 54 4-ssec for the last four of an easy six. St. Simper showed some dash in finishing clear of The Saint with a Nightly—Judy O’Grady filly beaten off. at the end of five furlongs in lmin 4 l-ssec. Beaugard and Gipsy Major were together at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 34 2-ssec. On her own. Bonny Royal sprinted five furlongs in lmin 6 2-ssec. Winger and Thomas took lmin 20sec for six. Eriskay was travelling well within herself at the end of six furlongs with Doulton in lmin 18 3-ssec. Waiau King was restricted to an easy round. Salmon Spear and Signal Officer finished together at the end of a mile and aquarter in 2min 14 3-ssec, the last mile in lmin 46 2-ssec, the last six in lmin 18 2-ssec, and the last four furlongs in 51 l-ssec. Both horses worked in their best style. Spare Part impressed by running a mile on his own in lmin 47 4-ssec, after going away from the mile and a-quarter post. He came home his last half in 54 3-ssec. A Riccarton visitor, Asah Jah. and Great Coon were paired over the six furlongs in lmin 20sec, the last half in 53 l-ssec. It was an easy task for Great Coon, who was held back to Asah Jah. The lastnamed is a three-year-old Nizami colt, and a novice. The two-year-olds, Surd and Anzora, reeled off three furlongs in 37 2-ssec, with Anzora doing it the better. Pageantry and Aganev were together at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 36 4-ssec. Wantwood was restricted to pacework on the plough. There is a doubt about him fulfilling his sprint' engagement on Saturday. From a barrier start Night Abbey, Gay Prince, and a Man’s Pal—Totolomai novice ran two furlongs in 26 2-ssec and three in 39 3-ssec.
