CYCLIST FOUND DEAD
At 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday, Mr Robert Bell, of Alma, and formerly of Ardgowan, was found lying on the road in Chelmer street, Oamaru, by Mr Frank Addison. Dr Butler was summoned and found Mr Bell to be dead. He had been riding his bicycle along the road. The deceased was a war pensioner from the 1914-18 war. and was 59 years old. For some years he had been in indifferent health, arising from war service.
An inquest was opened yesterday morning before the coroner, Mr A. W. Woodward. J.P., and after evidence of identification had been given by Mr A. C. Piper, secretary of the Oamaru Returned Services’ Association, it was adjourned sine die. Senior Sergeant D. Wilson appeared for the police. Mr Bell is survived by his widow and a family of two sons and two daughters.
