YOUTH CONFERENCE

Dominion Bible Classes

Preparations are being made lor a large influx of visitors to Oamaru from December 26 to January 2 for the New Zealand Presbyterian Bible Classes' annual conference. Delegates are expected from almost all over the Dominion to a total of 500 or more. The Scottish Society has made the Scottish Hall available for the catering. The young women will be billetted in the Waitaki Girls' Junior High School building and the young men in the North School, Columba Halls, and Middle School buildings. Most of the church halls in Oamaru have been put at the disposal of the Conference Committee, and arrangements are well in hand to make this an outstanding conference and holiday for the visitors. Most afternoons will be free for delegates to spend as they please, although a garden party and an all-day picnic are being organised. It is interesting to note that the first New Zealand Presbyterian Bible Class conference was held in Oamaru in 1904, and another in 1916, as was also the Majority Year Conference in 1925 when up to 1000 delegates attended. Now, on the eve of the Otago centenary, a further conference is to be held in Oamaru. These conferences are the climax of all minor Bible Class activities throughout the Dominion—Easter camps, Labour Day rallies and other gatherings.
