POLITICAL FEELING
LOCAL ELECTION CAMPAIGN “ I am glad I am getting out of it. I have never seen so much dirt and filth being thrown about in an election campaign as there is at present.” declared Mr W. Begg at a meeting of the Otago Harbour Board last night. It was the last meeting of the board before the election, and Mr Begg is not seeking re-election. Contending that no party politics should enter a local body election campaign, -Mr Begg said that there had been no such ‘‘political feeling” in the past. What was once brotherly love had become brotherly hate. Political feeling in local body affairs was most regrettable, he added, and during the next few days of the campaign he hoped that there would be less of it. Mr H. S. Watson, another member of the board not seeking re-election, said that he agreed that party politics should be kept out of locdl body affairs. The introduction of party politics was preventing many able men from taking up local body work.
