VARIETY OF KNITTED GOODS COMFORTS FOR THE SERVICES FIRST YEAR’S RESPONSE (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 7. The way the women and girls of New’ Zealand are helping in the national patriotic effort is illustrated in the returns of knitted goods supplied in the first vear of operation of the National Patriotic Fund Board from the boards store in Wellington. The greatest total is represented by Balaclavas, of which 31.426 have been dealt with by the store. Of these, 11,256 have been consigned overseas to the board’s commissioner. 4475 Lave gone to the Navy Department. 1388 to the Air Force Relations Organisation. 1101 to the Navy League, and 307 to the Army Department, leaving 11.799 in stock. . , . ~ , Great work has also been done in the making and packing of hussifs or sewing kits. The store has received 25,842 hussifs from various parts of the country Between them, the Army Department and the Navy Department have had 22,272 of the hussifs. and there are 3570 in stock. Of 17,661 pairs of mittens. 12,732 are still in stock Of 4929 pairs that have left the store. 2664 pairs have been supplied to the board s commissioner overseas, 1597 pairs to the Navy Department. 405 pairs to the Air Force Relations. 236 pairs to the Navy League, and 27 pairs to the Army Department. , , , , Scarves received total 14,735, and 8628 have been distributed as follows: Consigned overseas, 4179; Navy Department, 2787; Air Force Relations. 863; Navy League, 617; Army Department 182. In addition to these mam items the Air Force Relations organisation has been supplied with 1083 pairs of gloves and the Navy Department with 20 pairs. The Navy Department has had 452 pairs of socks, the Navy League 96 pairs, and the Air Force Relations 52 pairs. Pullovers totalling 219 have been supplied, mainly to the Navy League and the Air Force Relations. The remaining item on the list is skull caps, of which 105 have been supplied, almost entirely to the Navy League,
