TAIERI RIVER TRUST
MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Taieri River Trust was held at Mosgiel yesterday, when there were present Messrs H W. Wilson (in the chair), S. Snell, J. Dow, C. Findlay. J. Young. J. Lyall. Correspondence The district engineer (Mr P. Keller) wrote advising that the department had arranged with Mr W. L. Sprott, Momona, for the use of a section as a forced landing ground.—Received. The Director-general, P. and T. Department, wrote regretting that accommodation for a private telephone line on departmental poles could not be granted. He suggested that the line to the chairman’s house could be made immune to flood damage by raising it on butts. —The matter was left to the chairman. Mr J. R. Henderson, Maungatua, wrote asking that the ditch between Miller’s property and his own should be cleaned out.—lt was decided to clean the ditch when men were available. , „ The district employment officer wrote advising that authority had been granted for a subsidy on a maximum basis of £4 5s per man-week for eight registered married men under Scheme 13. —The offer was accepted. General Mr Dow reported on his inspection of Bathgate’s drain, and his recommendations for deepening the drain and outline in a larger pipe were adopted. He also referred to the dangerous practice of cutting rubbish in the drains in some localities. Mrs Emma Harris. Maungatua. waited on the trust regarding the destruction of a tree on her property by the trust’s workmen.—lt was decided that Mrs Harris be asked to state specifically the nature of her claim. Accounts amounting to £1566 8s lOd were passed for payment.
