PALMERSTON Gun Club On Saturday afternoon the Palmerston Gun Club held a shoot In connection with the queen carnival. There was a good attendance of members and visitors, and approximately £6 raised for the Air Force Queen (Miss Mary Pratt). The following matches were decided: —Six-bird (club members): J. Preston, sen., 6, R. Cameron 5, W. Roy 5, J. H. Roy 5, F. Roy 5, D. H. Rose 5. W. Hayward 5, W. Sutherland 4, J. Philip 4, D. Ross 4, R. Finnic 4, F. W. Robinson 4. J. R. Roy 2. Six-bird (amateur shot): Dr Thomas 6. C. R. Coutts 5, G. Sutherland 4. J. Hurley 4, J. S. Miller 4. A. Orbell 3, J. Preston, jun., 2. A. Aitchison 2, A. Cameron 1. Six-bird (mixed shoot): G. Sutherland 6, W. Sutherland 6. Of the other 11 entries, seven secured five each arid four, four birds Six-bird (double rise): J. H. Roy 5, G. Sutherland 5. and J. H. Roy won in the shoot-off, breaking four more. WAIKOUAITI Cricket A team from the Port Chalmers Club visited Waikouaitl on Saturday, and in a close-scoring game defeated the local team by 161 runs to 144. The principal scorers for Port Chalmers were:—Russell 53. W. Braithwaite 23. B. Bralthwalte 21. Jenkins 20. and Armstrong 15. Harrison (four for 36) was the most successful bowler for Waikouaitl. Batting for Waikouait), Aitcheson 52, Dillon 19. Dunn 21, Snook 15. Carling 15, and Heckler 11 were the double-figure batsmen. Bowling for Port Chalmers, B. Bralthwalte took three for 35, W. Braithwaite two for three, and Russell three for 27.
