Defence Rifle Club

The annual meeting of the Alexandra Defence Rifle Club was held on Monday evening, Mr R. G. Simpson presiding. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr W. Bringans; vice-patron, Mr C. R. Mazengarb; president, Mr R. G. Simpson; deputy president, Mr R. Forrest; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Lunn; auditor, Mr T. Mahoney; committee— Messrs H Hesson, J. McArthur, R. D. Fogo, J. Lunn and J. Thorley. It was decided to hold the first prize shoot on October 12, and it was defcided to communicate with other clubs regarding the competition for the Goldfields Shield. Mr J. McArthur presented a miniature cup for the winner of the Wells Memorial Cup. The chairman then presented the prizes won during the past season. Shooting Mishap While shooting birds in his cherry orchard Mr Clyde Weaver had the misfortune to slip, with the result that the gun exploded. The charge entered his thigh and he received a nasty flesh wound necessitating his removal to the Dunstan Hospital, where he is at present. Persona! The Rt Rev. J. Lawson Robinson, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, will pay an official visit to Alexandra-Clyde parish tomorrow and will preach in the church in the morning. __
