SOUTH OTAGO

BALCLUTHA Cricket Association The annual meeting of the South Otago Cricket Association was held on Thursday night. The chairman, Mr L. North, welcomed the delegates, and expressed the hope that the clubs would be able to carry on, despite the loss of members owing to the war. The annual report and balance sheet, which showed a credit of £lO 6s 3d, were adopted. The election of officers resulted President, Mr L. North; vice-presidents, Messrs A. K. Baxter and McLean. It was decided to send a letter of appreciation to the outgoing president, Mr L. J. Edwards. Mr A. J. Steitart was appointed secretary, and Mr J. G. Walter auditor. It was stated that the teams this season would be Milton, Owaka, Clutha and Kaitangata (one team each). Messrs Baxter and A. Stewart were appointed a Grade Committee, and Mr A. Parker sole selector. . , - - It was decided to participate in Country Week, and to recommend that the usual representative match be played at the end of the series, not in the middle. Opening day was fixed for October 19. It was decided to write to the Oil Fuel Controller in regard to obtaining supplies of petrol for country teams travelling. After discussion it was agreed that matches be of five hours duration (2 to 7 p.m.), and that, in the event of a team being late, the late time be used by the home captain. It was decided to play three rounds for the shield, and the same for the Waiwera Knock-out Cup. . The president presented the shield to Clutha A. last season’s winners.
