A. Hennah, left him at Riccarton, under the care of P. McGrath. The
horse made good progress, and, he was shipped home this week. It is unlikely, however, that any attempt will be made to race him again. P. McGrath has Plumage in work, but in the meantime she is being kept to road exercise. She is quite sound, and it is hoped she will be ready to race about Christmas. Portadown, the imported grey filly in F. A. Roberts's stable, will not be brought back to Riccarton after racing tn the maiden event at the Kurow meeting bhe will be left in North Otago, to be spelled for about six weeks, after which she will return here and be got ready to resume racing later in the season. She shows promise of being useful. G. Ridgway expects an addition to his team about'the end of this week. A gelding by Myosotis from the Acre mare Earthquake is being sent to him from the West Coast. F Hall has Murlet doing good work, and she should be ready for a race at Rangiora next month Her younger sister, Miss Tasta, has just come in, but she will not be fit, for racing for some time, probably Hororata, in December. Rebel Chief will continue his spell for another month, after which he will be prepared for the holiday circuit on the West Coast. Dictate is working along steadily, and ib gradually getting into shape for the Riccarton carnival in November. As a preliminary, he may have his first race at Motukarara Dictate has a good record, though tantalising, as a place-getter In important events, and he was third to Yours Truly and Capricious in the New Zealand Cup last year, i The tracks have dried up during the last few days, and the plough and the inside of the trial grass provided excellent galloping ground this morning Dense fog Interfered with visibility in the early hours, but cleared after breakfast, when conditions were ideal. There were plenty of horses out, but the work was not exciting A few smart gallops were registered, but many horses were given only useful tasks. Not many candidates for the Kurow meeting were sent along seriously, most of them being well forward as the result of recent racing Th2 Vulture will not fulfil his Kurow engagement. He is all right, but will be reserved for the South Canterbury meeting, where his owner can see him race. C T, Wilson, who was laid up for a few days early this week, has made a good recovery, and he was riding work this morning. His Kurow mounts will be Petersham. Tissue, Johnemby Spearthrust. H. W.
