(Per United Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, Sept. 26. Following are the handicaps for the New Zealand Cup. of £2OOO. Two miles:—
WORK ON SOUTHERN TRACKS PREPARING FOR WINGATUI (SrECiAL ro Daily Times) INVERCARGILL, Sept. 26. Two-year-olds with engagements at the Dunedin Jockey Club's spring meeting provided the main interest at Riverton this morning, when training operations were carried out in light rain. The trestles wore 35 feet out on the course proper and the going was dead and inclined to lift. Spanish Lad and the two-year-old Desert Maid jumped away from the six and ran to the three in 39Jsec, the first furlong in 13sec and the two in 26sec. The going down the back was good. Desert Maid has not shaken off her cold. Gay Flight ran from the six to the four in 26£sec and did it. on the bit. This filly is in great order and looks the pick of the Riverton two-year-olds for Wingatui Sing Sing and Boaform sprinted a couple of times from the mile and a-quar-ter post to the mile, the first time in 26Jsec and the second time in 27sec. The two-year-old was doing it the better each time. Southern Sail, who has engagements at the Dunedin meeting, ran seven furlongs in lmin 39Jsec, the last six in lmin 25sec and the last four in 57sec. She was doing it comfortably throughout. Peony Rose ran the last four furlongs of a mile and a distance in 55sec and was doing it easily. Rodeur was under a nice hold when running seven furlongs in lmin 41sec. the last four in 58sec. Gold Flight and Dark Flight have been physicked and were restricted to pace work. ' Airdrie gave a good display over two of the pony fences and afterwards ran seven furlongs in company with Shanty Man in lmin 24sec. Airdrie's rider lost a stirrup leather and Shanty Man won the gallop by a couple of lengths. Ballyaggan also gave a good exhibition over two of the pony fences. It was a quiet morning at Invercargill. Light rain fell throughout, and there were not any gallops of interest, the proceedings being confined to short sprints and pace work on the No. 2 grass track, which was on the dead side.
